Powered by the mighty Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) V8 engine, this is the first rear engine car to have won the Indianapolis 500. Lotus founder Colin Chapman and driver Jim Clark first came to Indy in 1963 and stunned the establishment with a sensational second place finish in the 500. The following year Clark started on the pole and lead early before a mechanical failure sidelined him. For 1965, Champman hired the Wood Brothers pit crew from NASCAR to speed up the pits stops and went on to score a dominating victory leading 190 of 200 laps. Most will agree that Clark was one of the greatest drivers of all time, winning not only Indy, but two Formula One World Championships only to lose his life in April 1968 at age 32.
