In the early 1980s Toyota set it's sights on winning the 24 hours of LeMans. One of their earliest efforts came in 1984 with the development of the 84C built by Dome. The 84C made it's debut in the 1984 Fuji 1000km race, driven by Masanori Sekiya and Eje Elgh. While Sekiya would eventually become the first Japanese driver to win the 24 hours of LeMans in 1995 (driving for McLaren), it would not be until 2018 that Toyota would finally score it's first win in the 24 hour classic.
