Although recognized as a TV broadcaster today, David Hobbs was the epitome of versatility as a driver in the early 70s, competing in F1, Indy, NASCAR, F5000, sports cars, you name it he probably drove it! In 1973 Hobbs qualified 22nd for the Indianapolis 500 in his strking black, white and red Eagle, however his car was smoking badly on the pace lap and had to be teneded to. He rejoined the race, and was flagged in 11th place, last car running.
