Novi Racing Corporation entered two powerful Novi Kurtis cars in the 1958 Indianapolis 500. Driven by veterans Paul Russo and Bill Chessbourg, the results were not as hoped. Russo qualified a respectable 14th, but Cheesbourg managed to get in at the 33rd starting position. Unlike the previous two years the Novis were unable to lead any laps, but both drivers were able to avoid serious damage in the first lap crash. Russo finished 18th after dropping out with radiator issues, and Cheesbourg finished 10th, completing all 200 laps, tying him with 2nd place George Amick for most positions gained during the race (23).
