1967 was a year of struggles for the Lotus Team at Indianapolis. Arriving at the track with the previous two winners, Graham Hill and Jim Clark, the team plans to run an H16 engine failed to materialize and Hill's Lotus 42 - designed to accomodate the H16 - had to be retrofitted with the Ford DOHC V8 and Jim Clark's lotus 38 was burdoned by an extra fuel tank that protruded from the left side of the car. Clark and Hill qualified 23rd and 21st respectively and finished 31st and 32nd respectively, in what would be the last Indianapolis 500 for Jim Clark.
