For the 50th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500, Eddie Sachs captured the pole postion for the second consecutive year. The race itself saw a great battle between Sachs and AJ Foyt, and when Foyt had to make an unexpected late race pitstop, it looked like Sachs would cruise to an easy victory, but without warning and only two laps to go, Sachs made a pitstop for tire wear handing the lead - and the win - to AJ Foyt.
