A century in the making (actually 105 years in the making) - the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 was as big or bigger than any of the previous 99. A sold out crowd gathered to watch 33 drivers vie for this once in a lifetime honor of being the winner of the 100th running. Hollywood could not have scripted a more unlikely finish to the race as contenders either dropped out - such as early leaders Townsend Bell and Ryan Hunter-Reay, or fell to the wayside as the need for fuel late in the race forced them to pit. Running a 'hail Mary' fuel mileage strategy, rookie Alexander Rossi found himself with a healthy lead as he took the white flag - but his car was running out of fuel. Coached by team owner Bryan Herta, Rossi managed his fuel perfectly, literally coasting across the finish line, out of fuel and unable to make it back to victory lane without a tow.
