Developed in 1976, Porsche sold customer variants of the 935 for use in 1977. By 1979 it was still in wide use, now sporting twin turbochargers. IMSA rules, however, added a 200lb weight penalty to the Twin Turbo's, so three of the Porsches came to Daytona with single turbos - including the Ted Field owned Interscope Porsche. The team had built an insurmountable lead, but turbo charger failure forced them to park the car short of the finish line with 10 minutes left in the race. When the checkered flag fell they started the car and nursed it over the finish line to claim a win with a 49 lap margin of victory!
