1988 saw the year start off with a win at Phoenix for Mario Andretti. At Indy, Andretti and Rick Mears topped the speed charts during practice on a daily basis leading up to pole day - Mario looked to be a top contendor for the pole, but it was not to be; team Penske swept the entire front row. Race day was even worse as Mario dropped out early with mechanical failure. Mario would score one more win - at Cleveland. This would prove to his penultimate win, scoring his final win in 1993 at Phoenix (at age 53!)
