In 1984 veteran driver Howdy Holmes teamed up with the newly formed Mayer Motor Racing Team as a team mate to Tom Sneva. The likeable driver had to major high points during this season: A second place finish at the Phoenix race, followed by a somewhat suprising front row start at Indianapolis alongside his team mate and pole sitter Tom Sneva. Nowadays Howdy runs the family owned Jiffy Mix company and is still a regular visitor at Indianapolis.
