1974 was Bobby Unser's year on the USAC Championship Trail. In thirteen races, Unser suffered only one DNF, had four wins and finished no worse than 5th in any of the twelve races he finished. He finished second to Johnny Rutherford in the 1974 Indianapolis 500.
