1973 saw cars flirting wiht the 200mph barrier for the first time at Indianapolis. In qualifying, Johnny Rutherford just missed being first person to turn a 200mph lap by 0.21 seconds, turning a lap of 199.071, and going on to a four lap average 198.413 - a record that would stand for four years.
