Pole sitter Parnelli Jones simply dominates the race, leading 120 out of the first 125 laps. But he loses his brakes which necessitates him crashing into tires to make his pit stops. Rodger Ward takes control of the race at that point and beats his team mate Len Sutton to the checkered flag by eleven seconds. This was the last time team mates finished first and second until 35 years later in 1997. It has happened one more time in 2001.
