Bill Vukovich was going for his third Indianapolis 500 Victory in a row, and looks like he was well on his way when tragedy struck on the 57th lap. As he was coming out of turn two all hell broke lose ahead of him. No time to avoid the melee, Vukovich's car launched over the wall, cartwheeling, killing Vukovich instantly.
