"Wild Bill" Cummings battled with Mauri Rose for much of the 1934 Indianapolis 500. He took the lead for good on lap 175 and won by 27 seconds - the closest margin of victory to date. Driving a front-drive Miller, Cummings averaged 104.8mph and nearly 14mpg over the course of the 500 miles.
