After winning the rain shortened 2007 Indianapolis 500, left for NASCAR for 2008, but came back in 2009 with a vengance, leading the most laps only to fall short at the end. In 2010, Dario picked up where he left off and dominated the race, leading easily all day for a total of 155 laps. However, a long green period toward the end of the race saw all the leaders conserving fuel and slowing dramatically. It was not clear if Dario would make it and Dan Wheldon was closing fast, but not fast enough if Dario had enough fuel. However, just after taking the white flag, Ryan Hunter-Reay did run out of fuel and as he slowed, Mike Conway plowed into him bringing out the caution and leaving everyone wondering 'would he have made it'. That question was answered as Dario had plenty of fuel to do donuts after the race and bring the car around to victory lane.
