Chip Ganassi racing returned to Indy in 2002 with his full-time Indy Racing League driver Jeff Ward and his CART drivers Bruno Junqueira and Kenny Bräck. Junqueira won the pole for the race, but was sidelined with gearbox problems. Jeff Ward had the best finish for the team bringing the car home in 9th. Two weeks later Ward won the Indy Racing League race at Texas Motor Speedway driving for Chip Ganassi.
