1992 was the Cinderella season that had long eluded Nigel Mansell. Winning the first five races and nine overall, Mansell cruised to an easy victory in the world championship, clinching it in the eleventh of sixteen races with a second place finish at Hungary. Team mate Ricardo Patrese finished second - 52 points behind Mansell. Before the season was over, Mansell anounced he was going to the Newman Haas team in CART, where he would win his debut race, five races overall, and the championship, giving Mansell an unprecedented place in history - for a period of time in 1993 Mansell was both the reigning Indy car and F1 champion!
