The Leyton House CG901B was a strikingly beautiful car that produced very mixed results. The season ran the gaumut from many DNQ's, many retirements to a dominant performance at the French Grand Prix where the team ran first and second for much fo the race. Gugelmin was overtaken for secnod by Alain Prost on lap 54 of 80. Three laps later Gugelmin's engine blew and his day was over. Capelli looked en-route to victory, but late in the race his engine started sputtering and Prost passed him for the lead with only three laps to go. Capelli was able to hold on for second place - the best finish ever for the team and it's first of only two points paying positions all season.
