Things started out promising for the Vel's Parnelli Jones Formula One team; Mario Andretti finished 7th in the teams debut late in the season in Canada. At the next race at Watkins Glen, Mario was on provisional pole for much of qualifying, but an accident in the qualifying session allowed him to get beat for the pole and he started third and was eventually disqualified from the race. For 1975 the team lost a major backer and the team folded shortly into the 1976 season.
