The 1972 Formula One Season was simply dominated by Lotus driver Emerson Fittipaldi. Jackie Stewart got off to an early lead in his 1971 title defense, winning the first race, while Fittipaldi did not finish. Howver, Fittiipaldi went on a tear with podium finishes in eight of the next nine races to easily outpace Stewart 61 - 45 points.
