After a six day delay due to rain, 1986 produced one of the most exciting finishes
in Speedway history as a restart with 2 laps remaining allowed Bobby Rahal to get a jump and pass leader Kevin Cogan to take the victory. Rahals car owner Jim Trueman, founder of Red Roof Inns, was ill with cancer and almost couldnt make the race. Sadly Trueman passed away eleven days later.
