This was the first win for Rick Mears, who in 1991 became the third person to win four Indianapolis 500’s. It was also the second win for his car owner Roger Penske who went on to record a record thirteen Indy 500 wins as car owner: 1972, 79, 81, 84, 85, 87, 88, 91, 93, 94, 2001, 2002, and 2003.
