In 1978 Al Unser Sr. teamed up with car owner Jim Hall of the Chaparral Can-Am fame. The pair teamed up to do what had never been done before or since - win the Triple Crown of 500 mile races - Indy, Pocono and Ontario. Not only did Al earn his third Indianapolis 500 victory, he also earned the first for the venerable Cosworth engine - first designed for F1 in 1967. Unser started and ended a 10 year streak of domination for Cosworth by winning what would be Cosworths last win in 1987 before the manufacturer staged a minor come back 8 years later with wins in 95 and 96 in the hands of Jacques Villeneuve and Buddy Lazier.
