This is the first rear engine car to have won the Indianapolis 500. Every winning car since has been rear engined. Clark teamed up with Lotus Founder Colin Chapman, the Ford Motor Company and the Wood Brothers pit crew from NASCAR to score a dominating victory leading 190 of 200 laps. Most will agree that Clark was one of the greatest drivers of all time, winning not only Indy, but two Formula One World Championships only to lose his life in April 1968 at age 32.
On a side note, this was the third winning car equipped with rear view mirrors since the first Indianapolis 500 in 1911 (Wilbur Shaw's Maserati being the other in 1939/40).
