This car was designed by George Salih with a radical configuration of having its 4 cylinder Offenhauser engine laying on its side to lower the center of gravity of the car. Salih did not intend to field the car himself, but had no choice when nobody bought it. He entered to get what prize money he could to recoup his costs. Veteran driver Sam Hanks was in tears as he drove into victory lane where he announced his immediate retirement from racing.
This same car also won the following year with Jimmy Bryan at the wheel.
